Urgent Help needed by The Campagna Center

Dear TCC Junior Friends:
The ask below is from The Campagna Center Development Committee. Please help get the 11,000 in parade fees waived by contacting the city council (instructions are below) and asking your friends, neighbors, family and local businesses you frequent to do the same!
Thanks!
Jen Peterson

Dear TCC Junior Friends:

As you may know, the City of Alexandria is planning to charge The Campagna Center approximately $11,000 for costs associated with the Scottish Walk parade. We have decided to launch a campaign asking City Council to waive this fee so that all of our hard-earned donations from the event will go to The Campagna Center. The best way to help is to email the attached letter to the Mayor and City Council members asking them to waive the fee. You may send this letter as is, or feel free to change it to reflect your personal thoughts. Please follow these instructions for contacting the Council members:

1) Download the attached letter to your file.
2) Open it and sign your name at the bottom.
3) Save the revised letter.
4) Go to the following website: http://www3.alexandriava.gov/contactus/mailto.php?id=6105) Fill in the contact information, and then attach your letter where prompted.
6) Hit send!

The City makes it very simple to contact the Mayor and six council members all at once through this web page, so the whole process should not take more than 10 minutes. If you would like to do more to help, please forward this information to friends and family members and ask them to contact City Council. Please do this as soon as possible, as time it running short. Thanks for your help!

Building Better Futures Volunteer Opportunity

Dear Junior Friends

Thank you so much for your interest in mentoring and tutoring students through the Building Better Futures program. It truly is a rewarding experience to work with these bright, motivated young students. Here are a few details about the program:

For Tutors:
Tutoring takes place Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at our Minnie Howard (9th grade) campus and our King Street (10th-12th grade) campus from 3:30 - 5:00pm. Tutoring begins this Monday, Oct. 3.
Tutors work with the same one or two students each day, e.g. Sue Carter comes every Monday to tutor Ahmad and Jose in Chemistry.
We have certified teachers on-site to provide on-the-job training and guidance to tutors. We can also arrange group training, but subject area, if desired.
If students don't have specific assignments to work on, tutors can assist with organizational and study skills (we can provide some material) or even play Scrabble or chess.

For Mentors:
We offer mentoring to up to 30 students (usually our college bound students, but not always) which is a one-on-one relationship between adult mentor and student that lasts all year.
The mentor spends an average of 1-2 hours per week with the student, either in person or via phone and email.
Often the mentor assists the student with the college research and application process.
The BBF staff are currently matching students with tutors and mentors, so interested individuals should submit the application as soon as possible. Instructions for returning the form are included in the attachment. Some background checks are required for new participants. Returning tutors and mentors may only need to complete a Child Protective Services check; we will provide all necessary paperwork.

Male volunteers are also needed for both tutoring and mentoring positions. Spread the word to your husbands, boyfriends, friends and co-workers!
For more information, contact a board member! Mentoring is an important way to connect with some of the people we help through The Campagna Center!

In their 41st year as host of the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend and Parade, The Campagna Center is proud to kick off Alexandria’s holiday season with the fresh scent of heather and the festive melody of bagpipes once again! With this historical year, the Center has partnered with The Scottish Government (PREMIER SPONSOR) to celebrate this honored tradition.

The Campagna Center's Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend events, with the exception of the Parade and the Holiday Designer Tour of Homes, will be held at the George Washington Masonic Memorial. Elizabeth has been a member of Junior Friends since 2004 and has always been a great supporter of The Campagna Center and our events as a patron, volunteer, and model. She always lit up the room when she walked in with her smile and kind disposition.

Elizabeth's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to

Isabella F. and Anthony R. Pignatello Scholarship Fund

or to
